YBCA FREEDOM FELLOW
2018

Collaborator: Liat Berdugo, Brett Snyder
Commissioning Agency: Yerba Buena Center for the Arts

The YBCA Fellows program brings together creative citizens from across the Bay Area—artists and everyday people alike—to engage in a yearlong process of inquiry, dialogue and project generation. Selected as a fellow for a year long creative investigation of the question: Can we design FREEDOM? Our project is titled: Freedom Instruments Toolkit(F.I.T.), it is an installation that allows participants to critically engage the question, “Can we design freedom?” Working from the idea that freedom can’t be designed en masse, F.I.T. offers a peer-to-peer process for interviewing individuals on their own experiences with freedom. The Toolkit instructs interviews using a specialized, custom-printed deck of cards.
